What does it mean to me to lead a team that puts extreme effort in perfecting availability of services for students?
To me It is more about leading an Idea that serves only the ones who share the same concept of success - by working together with love and respect, change for good will follow. I was a student searching for my place through the jungle of medical field . Everything looked beautiful, every branch of medicine was magnificent to me .
was amazed by the very nature of serving people at another level - touching human lives in a way that demanded trust, which you might agree is hardest thing to acquire. It was never easy to find a space where I could feel in sync and consistently excited until I came across quite the brutal of all surgeries - Total Knee Replacement.
Have you ever felt the sun on your skin on an early summer morning with a slight breeze? - that’s happened! Days followed and every morning before scrubbing in, It was the same sun and breeze that would fill my heart with warmness. Confidence and willpower grew along the way. It was not an accident, I took an Internship and I chose the department that I had never experienced. If you asked me why, I could never explain it any another way - I trusted it without even knowing what It could bring and It brought me happiness. Certainly my love for this field made me realize Its downs too. Way to success was not paved with wildflowers. Big minds would try to make me rethink my choices, not out of bad Intentions, but out of wishing “easier life” for a woman and there is nothing wrong with iIt, but little did they know that while scrubbing in for Surgery I felt like I was standing in front of the gate of heaven and that’s where I felt most at ease. years followed I recognized that I needed to share my love and respect for this field another way too. Education gaps needed to be filled, availability of services needed to be provided, people in need of “knowing” must be talked to and Knowledge must be shared. I began to think ways that would unite people who loved Orthopedics and Traumatology, loved to work for expanding knowledge and just loved helping people, So I established Georgian Student Association of Orthopedics and Traumatology (GSAOT).
Initially, I was alone and don’t get me wrong, It looked very bad, moving forward only with the Strongest Belief and nothing more. Suddenly, opportunities came across and whenever I saw one, I caught it right away. Thats when I met my Vice President and Surgeons with biggest mind and biggest heart. Everything felt United, aim was reached, but work was not finished, in fact, it will never be finished and that is the beauty of Medicine, It is ever evolving and by choosing this field we are officially signing on always being ready and relentless to make changes happen and our missions as Health professionals is to never back down when we see a gap! Always provide knowledge and go out to help people in need.
GSAOT stands on these values, It is a living organism, It provides experience and never backs down.
Dear reader, you may noticed that I used the word “Love” quite often and reason for this pattern is where it all began and It did begin only with love and nothing more. I owe Love and respect to this Profession, Students and Patients and I am happy to do it as a President of GSAOT with my team that I am very much grateful for, as a Surgeon and as a global health enthusiast.
